George Dimitrakopoulos is a Professor of Wireless Networks and Applications-Intelligent Transport Systems at the School of Digital Technology, department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) since 2010, as well as the vice-rector of research and innovation of HUA. He is is also a research and development coordinator (external) at Infineon Technologies AG in Munich, Germany since 2018. He has been actively involved, for more than 20 years, in funded research and development programs in the field of wireless communications and information technology applications. In the past, he has worked as General Manager in a construction company and as a research engineer in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) oriented companies. He is also active in start-ups in Greece and the USA. His research interests are focused on the design and development of AI-enabled algorithms for the optimization of communications networks, with emphasis on cognitive networks and non causal reasoning, applied on intelligent transport systems and highly automated / autonomous driving. He is the author of 3 books and more than 220 scientific articles in international scientific journals and conferences. George Dimitrakopoulos holds a degree in electrical and computer engineering from the National Technical University of Athens-NTUA (2002) and a PhD from the University of Piraeus (2007). He is included in the top 2% scientists list worldwide, according to Stanford University rankings (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).
Eirini Liotou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens since 2024. She holds a PhD degree from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She obtained the MSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the same university, the MSc in Communications and Signal Processing from the Imperial College of London, and the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. She has worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Siemens Enterprise Communications in the R&D department. She has also worked as a Post-Doc researcher in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and as a Scientific Project Manager for EU Research Projects at the Institute of Communications and Computer Systems (ICCS). She has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, and she has participated in numerous research and development programs. She also serves as a Reviewer for EU projects (as an EC expert). Her main research interests revolve around 5G/6G mobile cellular networks, with a particular focus on Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Quality of Experience (QoE).
Mara Nikolaidou is a Professor in the Department of Informatics and Telematics at Harokopio University of Athens. She has served as a rector (2016-2024). Her research interests include SoS engineering, system modeling and simulation, service-oriented architectures and BPM. Over the last years she actively participated in numerous research projects funded by national, European and international agencies on system engineering, service-oriented architectures, digital libraries and e-government. She is currently involved in research projects focusing on SoS engineering, the Internet of Things, Cyber-physical Systems and Smart Cities. She has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences and actively participates in the organization of international conferences in the area of software and systems engineering. She is a member of IEEE SMC society and Systems Council.
Iraklis Varlamis is a Professor in Data Management at Harokopio University of Athens and an external associate of GRNET S.A. He holds a PhD in Informatics from Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece and an MSc in Information Systems Engineering from UMIST, UK. He has been involved as a technical coordinator in a number of EU funded projects concerning knowledge management, data mining and Machine Learning. He has also co-ordinated several EU and National R&D projects concerning data management and personalized delivery of information. He has authored more than 170 articles concerning text and graph mining and intelligent applications in social networks and the web and received more than 2800 citations. In his recent collaboration with GRNET S.A. he has the technical lead of the architecture for the National Registry of Services.
Athanasios Anastasiou received his Bachelor degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, in 2005. In 2006, he received his M.Sc. degree in Digital Signal & Image Processing from the University of Central Lancashire. Likewise, in 2009 he obtained his second M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering held by the University of Patras and the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.). In 2015 received his Ph.D from the National Technical University of Athens (N.T.U.A.). Since 2011, is member of NTUA’s Biomedical Engineering Laboratory. Since 2024 is a post-doctoral researcher in Harocopio University of Athens with the subject of AI-Enabled Tools and Methodologies for Hospital Transformation. His current research interests comprise bioinformatics, biosignal and image processing, decision support systems, children obesity and technologies for assisted living. He also has experience in integrating wireless technologies in health applications, such as Electronic Health Record Management tools and physical activity recognition using wireless sensors and mobile devices. Last but not least, he has long experience in designing, managing and implementing IT Solutions and Projects, as well as, in developing software products using a number of frameworks, technologies and tools.
Dr. Ilias E. Panagiotopoulos holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics (2002) and a Ph.D. in Aerospace – Aeronautics Engineering (2009) both from the Mechanical Engineering & Aeronautics Department, University of Patras, Greece. He also holds a Ph.D. in Informatics Science and Technology (2020) from the Informatics and Telematics Department, Harokopio University of Athens, Greece. His research interests lie in the areas of Intelligent Transportation Systems and Vehicle Automation Technology, as well as in the areas of Computational Ballistics and Aeronautics – Aerospace Engineering. He has published more than sixty (60) papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings, and one (1) academic book (as a co-author). He has been involved as a researcher in numerous European and National R&D projects. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TCG).
Elena Politi is a research associate and a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens. She received her degree in Physics from the University of Athens, followed by a M.Sc. degree in Telecommunication Networks and Telematic Services from Harokopio University of Athens, Greece. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. at Harokopio University with a focus on Intelligent and Autonomous Vehicles. Ms Politi has also worked as a Projects Funding and Delivery Manager within the Robotics and Cognitive Systems Unit at UBITECH Ltd. Her research interests focus on Autonomous and Intelligent vehicles, AI-enabled functionalities and algorithms, and swarm intelligence.
Ioannis Vondikakis is a research associate and a PhD candidate at the Department of informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens. He has received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Currently he is working towards his Ph.D. in the area of Federated Learning Techniques for Cross Domain Applications. He has been working in various relevant to the group (icsa.hua.gr) research activities of national and EU funded projects.
Thalis Paktitis received the bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in 2020 and joined Harokopio University of Athens' Department of Informatics and Telematics' PhD program in 2023 with a working dissertation title of "Algorithms and Management Functionality for Green Electronic Components and Systems". In this context, he is currently participating in multiple national and EU-funded research projects. His research interests include green electronic components and systems, battery management systems and AI applications in the energy sector. Before joining the PhD program, he used to work at ENCO Ltd, a company specializing in environmental pollution measuring systems.
Konstantina Karathanasopoulou is a research associate where she is managing large scale R&D projects, at Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) - Greece, department of Informatics and Telematic since 2020. She is also an intern researcher at the Department of Research and Development Funding at Infineon Technologies A.G. (IFAG) in Germany since February 2024, where she dives into hands-on research experience on informatics, automated driving, and electronics. Furthermore, she contributes to R&D Proposals and Project management. She received her Bachelor's degree in Informatics and Telematics in 2022 and up to receiving her Master's in Digital Health and Analytics from the collaborative program offered by Harokopio University, University of Pireus, and Ionio University. Her research interests lie in the design and development of acceptance models, the creation of cognitive (knowledge-based) management algorithms for vehicular communication, and risk assessment research focused on highly autonomous vehicle technologies.
Dimitrios Georgiadis is a research associate contributing in large scale R&D projects at Harokopio University of Athens (HUA) in the Department of Informatics and Telematics since 2022. He holds his Bachelor’s Degree in Informatics and Telematics (2018-2022), currently studying for a Master’s in Computer Science and Information Technology from Harokopio University. He is in the process of writing his thesis in non-terrestrial networks. His research interests regard telecommunications, whether network architecture, signal processing or resource allocation, and also working on image processing models for single board units.
Foteini (Fenia) Giannakopoulou holds a bachelor’s degree from the department of Sociology at the Panteion University of Athens, while she is currently pursuing her master's degree in Gender, Society and Politics at the same University. Her research interests are developed around gender, body and sexuality and how these are intertwined to discourse and power. She has participated as a research associate in several national and European research projects.
Despoina Mitsiogianni is a researcher at the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University of Athens, and she is a graduate of the same department (2019-2023).
